Bradley Alan Bugg, son of Dr. Alan and Nancy Bugg of Union City, recently earned a bachelor of science degree with a double major in chemistry and biology from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
He graduated magna cum laude and with the distinction of University Scholar, which requires completiton of the honors curriculum, involvement in scholars activities and service projects and completion of a faculty-mentored two-year research project.
Bugg’s project, mentored by Dr. Rick Thomas, was in the field of biochemistry and was titled, “Tadpole Erythrocyte Ferrireductase.” It involved the purification of the enzyme ferrireductase found in the primitive red blood cells of tadpoles.
He was a member of the University Scholars Organi-zation, the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
His senior year, he was awarded a position as a teaching assistant in UT Martin’s Chemistry Depart-ment.
Bugg graduated in 2005 from Union City High School, where he was class valedictorian.
He has been accepted to and recently began studies at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where he received one of five regional positions for Tennessee students.
