Delphian Review Club meets

Posted: Wednesday, October 6, 2010 8:01 pm

Delphian Review Club recently met in the home of Vicki Blanton.
The thought for the day, “What I Love About This Month,” was given by chaplain Maggie Vaughan.
There were 13 members present. The minutes were read and approved, then the treasurer’s report was given.
Guest speaker was Cathy Waggoner of the Promethean Foundation, an organization which makes funds available for at-risk children who are pre-school aged. The purpose of the organization is to help children to reach their learning potential while attending high-quality day care centers that teach with a common theme of education, excellence and character development.
Sometimes called, “Pro-Kids,” this foundation was created in 2004 as a result of the vision and generosity of the Robert and Jenny D. Kirkland Foundation. It is governed by a board of seven members chosen by the Union City Rotary Club who believe every child in Obion County should have the opportunity to reach their learning potential.
Many children come from environments where drugs, unemployment and unlawful conduct are a way of life. The goal is to level the playing field by giving the children a vision of a better future through an opportunity to learn and develop good character.
Jeannine Cranford provided the refreshments of frozen fruit fluff pie and coffee.
The hostess for the next meeting will be Gail Latimer, with Martha Clendenin as co-hostess. Sue Greer will be the program leader on Friday at 1 p.m.
