Ellarine Moses, a strong believer in the youth of Union City, says after a decade serving on the Union City School Board, she is looking forward to continuing her work preparing Union City’s youth for the future. Mrs. Moses is officially announcing her candidacy for re-election to the Union City School Board as an at-large member. If re-elected, she would be taking part in her third four-year term on the board. She was originally elected to a two-year term 10 years ago.
During her tenure, Mrs. Moses says she has witnessed and been a part of numerous positive changes that have taken place over the past decade. Her campaign slogan is, and has always been: “Committed to serving children.” It is a slogan that has guided her commitment as a community activist for many years.
Mrs. Moses is also an active member of the board of directors of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee and is a member of the Obion County Library board of trustees, the board of trustees of the Regional Library Board and the Reading Railroad board of directors. She is a longtime member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Union City, where she serves as the Sunday school superintendent, and is the treasurer of Obion River District Association. In addition, she is a member of the Northwest Tennessee Community Service Association and the Tennessee Vocational Rehabilitation Board. Mrs. Moses has achieved the status of a Level V school board member, has served the northwest region of Tennessee School Boards Association as the Federal Relations Network coordinator and was recently re-elected as the local board’s representative to the upcoming TSBA annual convention. She is also an active member of the TSBA Ambassador Program.
Mrs. Moses’ commitment to her community and to the children of the community are two of the driving forces behind her decision to run for re-election.
The widow of Henry Moses Jr., the candidate is a native of Jackson. She moved to Union City 44 years ago as a bride. All of her children — Emeka, Chinyere, Arisa, Henry III and Otonda — are products of the Union City School System. She is a grandmother to 10 boys and girls, several of whom have attended school in Union City, and a great-grandmother to six little ones.
“Above all, our children must come first,” Mrs. Moses says. “The work the Union City School Board has done to better prepare our children for the future has made a big difference. Our school board is dedicated to working with our administrators to provide our teachers and support staff with the necessary tools to help our students.”
During her time on the school board, Mrs. Moses has consistently supported the system’s athletic and band programs, and she has been a strong advocate of the school system’s academic programs.
“We, as a community, must continue to work, encourage and support our system administrators, teachers, support staff and, most importantly, our students as we work to meet all benchmarks as required by both state and federal guidelines. I will continue to support the vision and goals of the Union City schools in preparing our students with the resources necessary to succeed in a career or college and in life.”
Mrs. Moses expresses appreciation to those who have shown her support and trust in the past years and says votes for her as the at-large Union City School Board representative on Nov. 2 and during the early voting phase beginning Oct. 13 will be greatly appreciated.
