Homecoming festivities to feature special awards

Four University of Tennessee at Martin alumni and friends will be honored as part of the university’s homecoming activities, which began Monday and continue through Sunday.
The award recipients will be recognized during the homecoming football game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardy M. Graham Stadium.
The award recipients are:
• Betsy Brasher, Out-standing Young Alumni Award, given in recognition of outstanding achievement in a chosen profession;
• William C. Hoy Jr., Outstanding Alumni Award, given to an alumnus or alumna in recognition of outstanding achievement in a chosen profession;
• Bob and Nancy Hurt, Chancellor’s Award for University Service, given in recognition of outstanding service to UT Martin.
Ms. Brasher, of Memphis, joined First Tennessee Bank in July 1998. She is vice president-business project leader. She coordinates, leads and serves as subject matter expert for business strategy and support.
In 2008, she was named to The Memphis Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40.” She is a past president and current policy board chair for Phi Chi Theta National Business Fraternity, is a member and former chair of University of Tennessee Alumni Associ-ation Women’s Council and past member and president of the UT Martin Alumni Advisory Council.
Ms. Brasher received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from UT Martin.
Hoy, of Clarksville, is senior vice president for commercial lending at Legends Bank.
He has served on the University of Tennessee Alumni Association Board of Governors and Executive Committee and as treasurer. He is past president of Montgomery County UT Alumni Association. Hoy is a UT Martin Alumni Council past president, is serving a second term as chairman of the UT Martin Past Presidents Council and is a member of the UT Martin Development Com-mittee and the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences Council.
He is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville and a graduate of Leadership Clarksville.
Hoy is chairman of the board of trustees for Cus-toms House Museums and Cultural Center. He received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from UT Martin.
The Hurts live in Trimble. He is a chartered financial consultant at Thoroughbred Financial Services LLC in Jackson.
He is a member and past president of the UT Martin Alumni Council, past member of the UT Board of Governors, Lions Club International past district governor and past president and secretary of the Trimble Lions Club. He served as the Trimble High School Alumni Association chair and was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Education.
He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UT Martin.
Mrs. Hurt is a retired Dyer County business education instructor, has been a member of the UT Martin Teacher Effectiveness Committee since 2004 and is a past member of the UT Martin Development Committee. She is a member of the Trimble Lions Club, Dyer County Community Concerts Association and a past member of the UT Alumni Association Women’s Council.
She received a bachelor’s degree from UT Martin and a master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
