Information sought in horse shooting
The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Public Safety is asking for information that would lead to the arrest of the person or persons who shot a horse last weekend at the university’s Agricultural and Natural Resources Teaching Complex. The horse belonged to the university’s equestrian team.
The horse, named Cash, was found injured by a student worker who was feeding animals early Sunday morning, Oct. 10, in a university-owned pasture.
Dr. Jason Roberts, UT Martin animal science faculty member and veterinarian, examined the horse.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the horse was euthanized.
A post mortem examination at the university’s West Tennessee Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory found that the injuries were caused by a gunshot.
A deer that died from a gunshot wound was found near where the horse was discovered.
Anyone who heard gunshots last weekend in the Gardner-Hyndsver Road or Old Fulton Road areas is asked to contact the UT Martin Department of Public Safety, 731-881-7777, or the Martin Police Department, 731-587-5355.
Persons with information can also call Crimestoppers at 587-2611 or text a tip anonymously at utm@tipnow.org.
