The Lower Town Neighborhood Association of Paducah, Ky., has announced a call to artists for the 2011 Lower Town Arts and Music Festival May 20-22. This juried festival is open to all emerging and established artists residing within a 300-mile radius of Paducah. The emphasis of this festival will be the cultural richness of our unique region. Drawing, painting, fiber, ceramics, wood, glass, sculpture, photography, jewelry and mixed media will be accepted. All entries must be received by Jan. 31. Works will be chosen on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution. All submitted works must be original and completed within the last two years. The venue is outdoors and awards include $5,000 in prizes. Fees include a $30 jury fee and a $175 booth fee. To apply, go to www.zapplication.org. Registration to Zapplication is free. For any questions about the event, contact Stefanie Graves, at (270) 908-0755 or Michael Terra at (270) 908-0090. The Neighborhood Association took over the festival in the fall of 2009 and was met with rave reviews from the artists, the press and the guests. More than 13,000 people show up for the fun. “Being a neighborhood of artists, we have an unbeatable combination of hospitality — breakfast, lunch, water delivered to your booth — and a real appreciation of what it takes to do what we artists do,” a spokesman said.
