Presents master class

Presents master class | Dr. Ney Rosauro, percussion, University of Tennessee at Martin
The Messenger 12.12.07

PRESENTS MASTER CLASS — Dr. Ney Rosauro (second from left) Brazilian percussionist and University of Miami director of percussion studies, was recently in residency with the UT Martin percussion studio under the direction of Dr. Julie Hill, assistant professor of music. Rosauro presented master classes to the UT Martin percussionists on the topics of Brazilian percussion and vibraphone techniques. In addition, he performed a concert of all Brazilian music with the UT Martin percussion ensemble and wind ensemble, which is directed by Dr. Nola Jones. The closing selection on the program was a world premiere composed by Hill entitled, “Lembrancas,” featuring Hill and Rosauro as soloists. Plus, Rosauro, Hill and the 13 members of the percussion ensemble performed a “tour of schools” in the Jackson area, presenting Brazilian percussion workshops to regional high school and middle school students. This was done in association with the Jackson Symphony, co-sponsors of the tour. Among those who worked with Rosauro were (from left) Scottie Somerville of Kenton, Richard Henson of Gibson and Jacob Abbott of Rutherford.
