Local group meets

Posted: Tuesday, December 14, 2010 8:01 pm

The Gen. Otho French Strahl Camp 176 Sons of Confederate Veterans met recently at the Obion County Museum on Edwards Street in Union City. Nine members were in attendance.
The meeting was called to order by Cmdr. Joe Dillon, who led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag and the Sons of Confederate Veterans flag salute. Chaplain Mike Alexander led the opening prayer.
Officers, who were elected to serve two-year terms, include Ralph Nichols as commander, Danny Isbell as lieutenant commander, Jimmy Williams as adjutant, Mike Alexander as chaplain, Allen Nohsey as judge advocate, Billy J. Foster as public affairs officer, James Green as sergeant-at-arms and Dr. David Oliver as surgeon.
In other business, the group:
• Received an update on the cannon for the Parks Cemetery Ridge Confederate Memorial Plaza. The carriage is almost complete and progress is being made on the barrell and assembly.
• Learned the Lee-Jackson banquet is to be held in Martin Jan. 19 at the Catfish Restaurant.
• Began planning for the annual spring field trip.
• Received the treasurer’s report as given by Williams.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans is the nation’s largest Southern heritage, history and honor organization open to all male descendants of a Confederate soldier who served honorably in the War for Southern Independence.
