South Fulton police are searching for two suspects in Thursday morning’s armed robbery of the Cash Express store on Broadway.
The incident was reported at 10:38 a.m. and South Fulton Police Chief Andy Crocker said the suspects were in and out of the business in just 3 1/2 minutes.
One suspect is described as a black man about 6-feet-1-inch tall and athletic in build, wearing a gray hoodie and light blue sweatpants, while the other suspect is described as a black man about 6-feet-3 to 6-feet-4-inches tall and athletic, wearing a black hooded jacket, white shirt and black pants.
Both men were reported to be wearing masks, which showed their eyes and bridges of their noses, and gloves.
Crocker said the two men came inside the business and forced the two female clerks to open a cash drawer, brandishing a silver-colored pistol which was pointed at a clerk. The employees were placed in a storage closet and made to lie down on the floor before the intruders fled. The robbers reportedly shut the closet door and told employees to count to 30, indicating they wanted to hear the employees start counting.
The employees apparently heard the robbers exit and waited a minute before they exited the closet to call for help.
When the robbers entered the business, employees were actually on the telephone with Cash Express’ corporate office in the Nashville area. Crocker said technology allowed the corporate office to see inside the local store and workers at the corporate office called 911 when they realized what was happening at the South Fulton location.
Neither of the clerks was injured.
Police reported the robbers fled with a significant amount of cash and change. Crocker said someone at a business several blocks up the street heard the robbery call on the police scanner and provided police with a description of a black sport-utility vehicle which apparently headed toward State Line.
Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call the South Fulton Police Department at (731) 479-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers are guaranteed anonymity and could earn rewards for tips that solve cases.
