Youth Leadership Summit encourages 'the next step'

The Messenger 12.19.07

For three days, Feb. 21-23, youth involved in leadership programs throughout the state will converge on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin for the seventh annual Tennessee Youth Leadership Summit.
The event, “The Next Step,” sponsored by the UT Martin Student Government Association, will help participants hone their leadership skills.
The Tennessee Youth Leadership Summit is an intensive leadership development conference, designed for college-bound high school juniors and seniors who are leaders within their student organizations. The conference features interactive workshops, keynote addresses, social activities, banquets and a number of networking opportunities.
This year’s conference keynote speaker will be Kelly Barnes, a professional speaker, leadership coach and an associate speaker for YourNextSpeaker, LLC.
His material draws from his numerous leadership roles and life experiences. Born and raised on his family farm in rural Oklahoma, Barnes has traveled across many states sharing his message of leadership.
The conference fee is $50, not including accommodations. The fee covers meals, campus entertainment, materials and a T-shirt. On-campus accommodations are limited, so participants requesting to stay on campus should make arrangements via the Web site as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to accommodate as many participants as possible in campus housing.
Visit the conference Web site — www.utm.edu/youthleadershipsummit — for more information, including conference registration and housing information. The conference registration deadline is Feb. 18.
Check-in for the summit is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 in Boling University Center, just outside of Watkins Auditorium. The summit will officially begin at 5:30 p.m. and will conclude just before lunch Feb. 23. All activities will be chaperoned by a UT Martin staff member or student leader.
For more information, contact the UT Martin Office of Student Affairs at (731) 881-7710.
