Our President, while a candidate, suggested that we save fuel by checking our tire pressure. He might have added getting a tune-up. A more economical suggestion would’ve been drivers making right turns at a traffic signal to stop, make that turn after stopping, if there is no approaching traffic, and no signage to the contrary. It is a state law that you may make a right turn at a traffic signal which is red, if you can do it safely and there is no signage to negate the privilege. It is refreshing to see folks doing this so others don’t have to stop for them to make their right turn which by law they could have already made without impeding the traffic flow on the other street. Is it a matter of control or just ignorance or a senior moment no matter what the age?
Last Sunday, I watched 60 minutes on CBS and was shocked to know how Chinese have stolen our defense secrets. It seems that our Washington politicians and corporate executives have either not watched it or are looking the other way. If Chinese can succeed steeling our defense secrets, what will prevent them from getting hold of manufacturing secrets of companies which have taken their manufacturing there for cheap labor? Once they get hold of those secrets, what will prevent China taking over those industries kicking them out. When these companies leave the U.S. for China, they leave behind immovable properties ,buildings etc., to rot dumping them on Uncle Sam claiming depreciations and converting the towns into ghost towns. Our labor force is not permitted to take over those operations to continue to earn their living. If our Congress had passed a law permitting labor to take control of their companies, they will have continued to have jobs, low unemployment, balancing of federal and state budgets. But our politician will call it communism rather than workers able to earn their living.
But China can take over the American industries in China and nothing these corporate executives will be able to do. So these executives have not only cut the throats of their workers but will ultimately cut their own throats. That CBS 60 Minutes report ought to be wake up call to our politicians and corporate executives who are taking away American jobs to China also not realizing that they can manufacture in China but cannot sell their products when people here will have no jobs.
Please allow me to put in my two cents about the Wisconsin teacher situation. First I have to applaud what I read in the Words of the founding fathers column in the Thursday 2-24 paper. As usual he was thoughtful, reasonable and well written.
As for me I would like to see teachers make a good wage but depending on unions who have undeniable ties to international socialist movements is scary. Also Andy Stern of SEIU and Richard Trumpka of AFL-CIO have visited the White House more than anyone.
The danger of mixing unions and government at the State or Federal level is this – politicians run for office and ask for union support, the unions say sure we’ll support you if you will do this and that ounce you get in. And the politician ends up doing union business before they do the people’s business.
The President is an organizer from way back. He sent his “Organizing for America “ army from all over the country into Madison right away and there was even an international socialist group that held a drug fueled love in the capitol building. This can be found on Youtube.
I know a lot of teachers and I don’t believe they want anything to do with those kind of people.
At first I thought Obama was just starting his 2012 campaign but now I wonder if he is trying to start a civil war.
Anyway Obama would be much better off trying to solve the national debt problem instead of meddling in state problems.
I wish the teachers well but we have to get to the source of the problem before we can solve it. It was mostly the Democrats in the Senate who shot down Ron Paul’s “ Audit the FED bill “ the last time around. Until we can find out what the FED is doing with OUR OWN money and get back control of it we won’t know where we are.
Until that happens don’t allow anyone to play one group of people against the other. We are all in this together and we need to step back and look at the big picture.
The Bible tells us as mothers and fathers to “train up a child in the way he should go” (not the way he wants to go). But the way he should go. “And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.
Don’t we want our children to live with God in heaven when time will be no more? So, let’s train them in the way God wants us to! If each father would we will live in a better world. Ephesians 6:1 – “Children obey y our parents in the Lord for this is right.” By this, family can and will live together in heaven.
This nation will not recover from its current financial distress until the housing market rebounds. Challenging economic times of the past have proven this time and again. Still, politicians continue to target real estate, despite its history of being a sound investment for individuals, families and businesses across the country.
Attacks on the American dream of homeownership have been coming from all sides but the reality shows there is still no better way to build a nest egg for the future. Despite current economic challenges this is not the time to minimize real estate investment.
While aggressive measures are needed to stabilize the nation’s economy, cuts made at the expense of an already fragile housing economy would be drastic. Take for instance the mortgage interest deduction (MID), an effective tool helping facilitate homeownership by allowing individuals to deduct interest paid on mortgage debt of up to $1 million.
IRS facts show that 37 million taxpayers benefit from the MID, saving individuals $72 billion annually.
That is money getting put back in our local community, stimulating the economy and helping create jobs. And it’s not just for the wealthy; the majority of people taking advantage of this deduction make less than $100,000 a year. We can’t lose this!
As our politicians continue to debate what’s best for us, remind them that eroding the tax benefits associated with any housing investment in our economy would not only be devastating here but in countless neighborhoods across this great nation.
