Mandatory evacuation remains for areas of Hickman, Fulton Co.

Posted: Friday, May 6, 2011 9:06 pm

A mandatory evacuation order remains in effect for the lower bottom area, the downtown area and the West Hickman areas of Hickman, Ky., and Fulton County, Ky.
Anyone who needs to enter the lower bottom area needs to show a pass at the checkpoints. Passes can be acquired at the Fulton County Office Complex in Hickman.
For assistance, call (270) 236-3787, 236-3788, 236-3789, 236-3793 or 236-3796.
A meeting was held Thursday morning at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Hickman. Fulton County received a federal disaster declaration Wednesday.
The commonwealth and several counties — including Fulton County — as well as eligible local governments and certain qualified private non-profit organizations, might be eligible to receive federal disaster aid. The federal aid will be used to supplement recovery efforts in the areas struck by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding which began April 22 and continued.
Since the floodway activation at Birds Point in southeast Missouri, the river level at Hickman is at 53.31 feet — a slight increase from Wednesday.
The levee continues to be monitored and is still in good shape at this time, according to the EOC. Everyone is still ordered to stay away from the levee and floodwall areas of Hickman in Fulton County.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to assist is asked to call any of the previously-listed phone numbers, but they should call before they come to the area, according to the EOC.
