Business summit is scheduled

The fifth annual Mid-South Economic and Business Development Summit, “A New Day in Economic Development,” will be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. May 17 at Dyersburg State Community College.
The one-day summit will be held in the First Citizens National Bank Auditorium on the DSCC campus.
The event is being hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin Regional Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, the DSCC Tennessee Small Business Development Center and WestStar Leadership Program.
There is a $50 registration fee, which will cover a continental breakfast, materials and a luncheon.
Registration and a continental breakfast will be held from 8-8:30 a.m.
The program will be opened at 8:30 a.m. by Maleia Lee, director of DSCC Tennessee Small Business Development Center; Dr. Tom Rakes, UT Martin chancellor; Tina Morris, DSCC vice president of institutional development; and Hollie Holt, REED Center director.
“A Shared Vision of Regionalism” is set for 8:45-9:30 a.m. and will be presented by Allen Hester, Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce president/chief executive officer.
“Why Lady Gaga Has Fans and You Don’t,” will be presented by Steve Holt, Steve Holt Consulting in Martin, at 9:35 a.m.
After a 15-minute break, state Commissioner of Tourism Susan Whitaker will present “Developing Your Community’s Economy Through Tourism” at 10:30 a.m.
Belmont University professor of management Susan Williams will present “Engaging Hearts & Heads” at 11:20 a.m.
The luncheon will begin at 12:15 p.m. and will feature keynote speaker Julie Stackhouse.
She is the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis senior vice president and managing officer of Banking Supervision, Credit, Community Development and Learning Innovation.
