Local officials attends development course

Posted: Tuesday, May 17, 2011 6:01 pm

Robbie Green, office and communications manager with the Obion County Joint Economic Development Council, was among the more than 40 community leaders and stakeholders who participated in the fifth annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course earlier this month in Nashville.
The TBEDC is presented by the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service and its Center for Industrial Services.
Typical conference attendees include chambers of commerce, economic and community development organization professionals, elected officials, government agency staff, planners, utility personnel, business leaders, real estate brokers and developers and community volunteers.
“Once again we had a strong turnout for the course,” said Dr. Andre Temple of the UT Center for Industrial Services and TBEDC course director. “The participants were very pleased with the content and said it stimulated their thoughts on economic development for their communities.”
Participants learned about best practices in economic and community development, explored new methods and programs to promote job growth and investment, discussed emerging trends and factors that shape local and regional economies and developed a valuable network of fellow economic development professionals and resources.
