Bethel Sports Information
Bethel University head football coach Dino Kaklis will travel north later this month to serve as a guest coach with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
A long-time friendship with Calgary assistant coach Chris Jones led to the invitation to assist the Stampeders, who open up their regular season July 1 against Toronto.
This will be the second year in a row Kaklis will be a part of the staff.
Jones is the defensive coordinator and assistant director of player personnel and football operations for the Calgary squad who won the Grey Cup in 2008.
Coach Kaklis is excited about the trip.
“I am really thrilled with this opportunity again this year,” Kaklis said. “It will be again a great chance to learn and share coaching ideas with an outstanding group of coaches. It is not every day you get this type opportunity to work with a professional staff.”
The Wildcats open their season Aug. 27. For a complete look at the fall schedul, visit the Bethel football page at www.bethelathletics.com.
Kaklis is entering his tenth season as head of coach of the Cats.
In other news pertaining to the school, former Bethel basketball star Andre Crudup has been selected to the USA Select Basketball team. Crudup competed in the camp in Charlotte earlier this month.
The Select team will tour Europe in late August and early September. The squad will play in 12-15 games across Europe.
USA Select specializes in helping players from all over the nation to have opportunities for playing careers in Europe.
Crudup led Bethel in scoring this past season and was named to the TranSouth First Team All-Conference team.
Other Bethel players who have continued their careers after their Bethel days are Drew Woods who played in Turkey, Leon Sewell who played for the Harlem Ambassadors, and Hrvojc Devcic who played in Croatia.
