Lady Govs’ legend
to assist at APSU

CLARKSVILLE — Brooke Armistead, Austin Peay’s all-time scoring leader who later had her jersey number retired, has been hired as an assistant women’s basketball coach by APSU head coach Carrie Daniels.
Armistead has worked for the state’s Department of Child Services and in the insurance business since graduating in 2004.
She was inducted into the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
It is not Armistead’s first foray into coaching. She served as Lady Govs graduate assistant in 2004-05 when Austin Peay captured its fourth-straight OVC tournament championship.
Armistead left Austin Peay as the Lady Govs’ all-time leading scorer —second all-time in OVC history — while leading the Lady Govs to three straight OVC tourney titles and NCAA tourney appearances. She was named first-team All-OVC for three straight years and earned OVC All-Tournament all four seasons.

Morehead’s Harper
in Hawks’ ‘mini’ mix

Former Morehead State point guard Demonte Harper has been invited to the Atlanta Hawks’ upcoming minicamp for draft picks, free agents, and undrafted players.
The three-day event will give Harper a chance to catch on with the Hawks.
Harper graduated from Morehead State in May and was a member of the first team All-Ohio Valley Conference team, was OVC tournament MVP, and hit the most iconic shot in Morehead State basketball history to upset Louisville in the NCAA Tournament in March.
If signed, Harper will become the second former Eagle playing in the NBA. Former teammate Kenneth Faried was drafted on June 23 in the first round by the Denver Nuggets.

Austin Peay slugger
is an All-American

Austin Peay State Uni-versity freshman second baseman Jordan Hankins continued to gain postseason recognition for his 2011 performance, earning first-team Baseball America Freshman All-America honors.
Hankins, of Wentzville, Mo., is just the second-ever Ohio Valley Conference player to receive Baseball America Freshman All-America recognition.
Hankins led the Gov-ernors with a .351 batting average this season with four home runs and 31 RBI.
During Ohio Valley Conference play, Hankins batted .342 with two home runs and 15 RBI. He was named second-team All-OVC at second base and was a member of the league’s All-Freshman team.

Huntingdon hurler
to be a Bethel gal

Huntingdon’s Kathryn Kreuziger signed with the Bethel University softball program recently.
She finished her senior season with a 16-1 record.
Kreuziger helped the Lady Mustangs win the district and regional championships and advance to the sub-state her senior season.
During her career at Huntingdon, the program won four district and three regional championships.
She is set to major in elementary education at Bethel.
