Show respect:
clean up county
To The Editor:
As I drive on the country roads of our county, it’s not the beauty of West Tennessee that gets my attention; it’s all the trash and litter that people have thrown out. I’ve called our county mayor several times about all the trash and litter but I guess it’s too small a problem.
Come on, people. Let’s show some responsibility and respect and clean up our county.

Project support
garners praise
To The Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support concerning the two Iwo Jima monuments. To anyone who did not get a book, “Indestructible,” concerning the youngest medal of honor recipient of the 20th Century, who was here at the second monument dedication, please make a $26 check payable to Jack Lucas and mail it to me at Box 153, Union City TN 38281 and I will have a signed book sent to you.
Happy new year.

Taxes sometimes
used wrongly
To The Editor:
Dear People of the United States of America:
We the people are a free country, and I have to say the country needs taxes, but we don’t need such high taxes. We wanted to be free from Great Britain because of the high taxes.
I understand that we have taxes for too much stuff and to pay for the war. But we need low taxes because we have so many people in the United States.
When we were ruled by Great Britain, we had tons of taxes — the Sugar Act, Stamp Act and the Boston Tea Party. We fought for the right to be free from these taxes and our freedom.
These taxes are for the government to pay for the war, to pay to the people who work for a livng. But some people sit at their houses getting paid when they are not even working. I believe that taxes are OK, but they can be used in the wrong way. Taxes can be used just for people’s own wants. The president right now is a good man.
