Red Devil golf teams triumph in Week 1 The South Fulton High School golf team won its initial home match of the season Thursday, topping Westview and Trenton at the Fulton County Club. Chase Mayfield, a two-time state tournament participant, was the day’s medalist with a 36 for the Red Devils, who shot 158 as a team. Nick Daughtery came in with a 40, David Kent Brundige and Easten Woolf both finished with 41s, and Harrison Hawks registered a 46. Both Westview and Trenton finished with totals of 190. The SF girls’ team recorded a victory earlier in the week at The Farms in Dyersburg, edging South Gibson 105-111. McKenze Pane was the medalist with a 41 for the Devilettes, while Sydney Easterwood shot 54. South Fulton (165) was second to the host Trojans (158), but better than South Gibson (201) in the boys’ match. Mayfield shot 38, Hunter Hutchins 41, Brundige 41, Daughtery 45 and Woolf 49. There was no girls competition held between the teams on Thursday. SF will play again Monday at The Farms in the Trojan Classic — an 18-hole event that will begin at 9 a.m. ‘Pop’ Two-Man event slated for Aug. 20-21 Poplar Meadows Country Club will be hosting its annual two-man golf scramble Aug. 20-21. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day. Based on a full field, there will be equal payout in the four flights of $650 for first place, $450 for second place, $250 for third place and $150 for fourth place. Entry fee, which is $80 per person, includes a steak dinner, closest to the hole prizes, range balls and one mulligan per day. For more information, contact Tiger Haag at 885-3650. Ladies play at HCC in weekly scramble The foursome of Dino Nerren, Jackie Russell, Wanda Brown and Liz Roberts teamed to shoot 3-under-par and win the weekly Hickman Country Club’s Ladies League outing on Thursday evening. A group made up of LeAnn Gantt, Evelyn Whitten, Leatha Barnes and Charlotte Hall earned second at 1-under-par. The ladies play every Thursday evening at 5:30 in Hickman. Those interested in playing are encouraged to call (270) 236-9128. UCHS linksters 2nd in three-way match The Union City High School boys’ golf team finished second in a three-way match with Dyersburg and Ripley at the Wingfoot course Thursday. The Tornadoes collectively shot 188, trailing D’burg (164), but ahead of Ripley (215) in the final standings. Andrew Easley and Wesley Hale both finished with 44s, to lead UC. Other Twister scores included Christian Cousar with a 48, Chase Treece with a 50, Clay Treece with a 52 and Parker Dotson with a 55. There were no girls involved in Thursday’s match.
