Ridgemont ruled
by King’s arm
Nathan King threw a pair of touchdown passes to Jaylee Hobbs to help Ridgemont beat Black Oak 28-6 in a middle school football game from last week that was reported past Friday’s deadline.
Michael Montgomery had a 55-yard TD gallop for the victors, while Bruce Ragsdale scooted 15 yards for a score.
Alberto Vasquez accounted for two two-point conversions.
Emmanuel King was a disruptive force up front for the Mustangs, with seven tackles and several forced bad snaps.
Ridgemont (2-2) plays at Hillcrest on Thursday.
Local runners make
trip to state course
Obion Central’s teams and Union City’s lone runner made a trip to the site of this year’s cross country state championship meet on Saturday.
They all hope to return in a little over a month.
Running in the Tennessee Classic at the Steeplechase Course in Nashville, where the state finals will be run on Nov. 5, the Lady Rebels placed eighth out of 20 teams and UC’s Daniel Williamson was fourth overall in the boys’ meet.
Rachel Jones led the Lady Rebels with a time of 22:24, while Peyton Daniel was next at 22:42. Following up for the Central girls were Brenna Wilkins at 24:12, Brittney Dodd with a 24:44 time and Whitney Dodd with a 25:52.
Both Jones (32nd) and Daniel (38th) received awards for finishing among the top 40.
Williamson led the local boys with a fourth-place time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds.
For the Rebel boys, Coleman Dunn led with a time of 19:27, followed by Jackson Smith (20:09), Austin Ripley (20:56), Ian Miller (21:07) and both Mike Klein and Shaw Logan (21:23).
The inaugural Union City Cross Country Invitational is slated for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Graham Park.
Lady Rebels blanked
in three soccer games
Obion Central suffered three shutout soccer losses over the weekend in the Liberty Shootout in Jackson.
The Lady Rebels were beaten by tournament champion Sacred Heart 1-0 on Friday, then were blanked by the host team 3-0 and Munford 1-0 on Saturday.
Sacred Heart defeated Westview for the title on Saturday.
Obion Central’s next match is Tuesday at Westview.
SF softball team
wins, loses at LC
South Fulton split a pair of middle school softball games in play in the Lake County Invitational on Saturday.
The Devilettes defeated the host team 12-1, but lost for the second time in five days to Martin, 5-1.
Katie Clapper twirled a two-hitter against LC. Aalia Bivens cracked a home run among her two hits, and Aeriel Wright collected a pair of safeties for SF.
Against Martin, South Fulton was done in by eight walks and five errors as the Lady Panthers scored their runs on just two hits.
Wright was the losing pitcher.
Tiffany Potts had two of the Devilettes’ five hits.
SF’s game today at Ridgemont has been postponed until next Monday.
The Devilettes will play at Lake Road on Tuesday. |
