Rain washes out
7A-AA golf event

The Region 7A-AA Golf Tournament scheduled for Monday was postponed due to rain.
The 18-hole event, which is to be played at the Milan Golf and Country Club, was rescheduled for today with tee-off slated for 9 a.m.
Westview’s Houston Haag, Ty Roberts and Payton Williams of Dresden and Greenfield’s Tony Robinson will represent Weakley County in the individual portion of the boys’ play, while the Greenfield girls’ team of Haley Rawls, McCall Scates and Ashley Tucker advanced after a third-place showing in the district.
The Class A-AA is set for Sept. 27-28 at the WillowBrook in Manchester.

Dresden once again
state’s No. 7 team

Dresden’s number is still seven.
The Lions are ranked seventh in the latest Associated Press Class 2A football, holding firm to the spot the team held last week as well.
Dresden remains one spot behind McKenzie, the only team with a win over the Lions this season, and two spots behind Humboldt.
Boyd Buchanan is still the No. 1 team, followed by Trousdale County, Grace Christian and Hampton.

Westview soccer 2-1
at Liberty Shootout

The Westview girls’ soccer team competed well in the Liberty Shootout at Jackson this past weekend, winning twice by shutout to advance to the championship game before losing.
The Lady Chargers knocked off Munford 3-0 and Lexington 2-0 but then suffered a shutout loss in a 1-0 setback to Sacred Heart.
Westview is 8-2 overall and 5-0 in district play with a league game against Obion Central 5:30 p.m. today in Mar-tin.

Jr. Lions can’t recover
from early H’don lead

Huntingdon built a 20-0 halftime lead en route to a 42-20 win over Dresden in middle school football action on Thursday.
Zach Cooper had TD runs of 60 and eight yards in the third quarter, Dresser Winn hitting Quincey McDonald to set up one of the scores.
Dresden scored through the air in the fourth as McDonald found Brice Williams for a 50-yard TD toss. Winn added the two-point conversion, but the Ponies added a late score.
Dresden visits Green-field on Thursday. Published in The WCP 9.20.11
