 Jackson tourney tough
on Mustangs, Cougars

Both Ridgemont and Hillcrest struggled against quality competition in the a middle school softball tournament in Jackson on Saturday.
Each local entry went 0-3, the Lady Mustangs falling to USJ twice and Lexington, while H’crest was beaten by Milan and Decatur County two times.
In its 4-1 loss to Lexington, R’mont got two singles from Sheridan Bugg. The Mustangs got just two  hits (Landry Webster and Macey Beeler) in a 17-2 loss to USJ, but collected six safeties in a much-closer 2-0 setback vs. the Lady Bruins. Macy Muirhead had two of those singles
Ridgemont is now 9-8 heading into today’s game at South Fulton.
For Hillcrest, the Cougars got a double from Courtney Heuck in their first setback (7-2) against DC. In the second matchup (4-1), McClain Bell and Alaina Walker each had a two-base hit for Hillcrest.
The Lady Cougars (4-9) host Black Oak tonight.

Winning SF foursome
cards 15-under score

The foursome of Mike Hawks, David Brann, Chris Puckett and Woody Brundige combined to shoot 15-under-par and win the second annual South Fulton Booster Club/Basketball Golf Scramble on Saturday at the Fulton Country Club.
A group made up of Mickey Brockwell, Johnny Campbell, Jack Simpson and Ronnie McKinnie was second, one shot back.
Ten teams competed in the event, according to a spokesman.

Tech, JSU split four
OVC football awards

Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State each had two players chosen as Ohio Valley Conference football Players of the Week.
Austin Peay had the other top player, based on last week’s play.
