Mrs. Rippy hosts Delphian Review Club

The Delphian Review Club met recently in the home of Mrs. Jim Rippy with Mrs. Billy Jack Cranford serving as co-hostess.
An informative program on Northwest Safeline was presented by Joy Rogers, the executive director from Dyersburg, and Kim Miller, the coordinator for Obion County and Weakley County. Mrs. Rogers explained the Northwest Safeline was established in 1985 by a group of concerned citizens in the Dyersburg area who saw the need for a program to help victims of domestic violence. Northwest Safeline is funded by federal grants, community agencies such as United Way and by private donations. It now serves seven West Tennessee counties: Dyer, Lake, Obion, Lauderdale, Weakley, Tipton and Crockett,with shelters located in Dyer and Obion counties. Services are offered regardless of age, race, religion, ethnic background, sec, sexual preference or handicap.
Ms. Miller of Union City described some of the ways she helps clients at the local level, including immediate assistance, confidential counseling and acting as an advocate in court to obtain orders of protection or pressing charges. She also serves as an advocate with police, hospitals and welfare agencies. Ms. Miller provides temporary shelter in a safe, secure, pleasant location as well as transportation, clothing and other personal needs along with support from others who have been through a similar crises.
Additional services supplied by Northwest Safeline include individual plans of action and recovery developed with each victim, referrals to other agencies in the community to help the family with special needs such as housing and legal alternatives that work.
