Rebels, UC runner
post fast times
Obion Central’s girls topped the field at Hardin County on Thursday, while the Rebel boys were near the top as well.
Two days later in Jackson, Daniel Williamson was one of the best runners in his field.
Central won the girls’ meet and the boys placed third in their run at the Hardin County Invitational on Thursday.
Rachel Jones led the way for the Lady Rebels with a second place finish.
Also medaling for Central’s girls were Peyton Daniel (fourth), Nichole Whitson (eighth), Brittney Dodd (ninth), Whittney Dodd (12th), Brenna Wilkins (13th), Kris Storey (14th) and Nicole Storey (15th)
Coleman Dunn placed ninth overall, while Jackson Smith (11th) and Dakota Eaves (12th) also medaled for the Rebel boys. Others scoring for the boys’ team were Austin Riley and Alex Terrell
The OC teams will run Monday at Big Sandy and Thursday at Dyer County.
Williamson set his personal best time and finished second out of 95 runners on Saturday.
The Union City junior crossed the finish line at the Union University Invitational in a time of 16 minutes, 46 seconds to come in just one second behind meet winner Austin Cassasa of David Lipscomb.
Williamson’s next meet will be Thursday.
Red Devilettes repeat
as softball champs
South Fulton repeated as both the regular season and tournament champion of the Obion County Middle School Softball League over the weekend.
The Devilettes did not lose a game in the double-elimination postseason event played in Troy.
SF beat Hillcrest, Lake Road, and then Ridgemont for the championship.
LR, which was second in the regular season, finished third behind South Fulton and R’mont in the tourney.

Murray State
MURRAY (AP) — Washaun Ealey led a punishing ground game that helped Jacksonville State withstand the passing of Murray State for a 38-30 victory Saturday night.
Ealey, a transfer from Georgia, carried 28 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns for the Gamecocks (4-1, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference), who amassed 329 rushing yards on 57 carries.
The Racers (2-3, 1-2) rode the arm of Casey Brockman, who came in averaging 306.5 yards per game.
Against Jacksonville State he threw for 421 yards, completing 30-of-53, including two third-quarter touchdowns.
Brockman also ran for a 2-yard touchdown with 53 seconds left, a score set up by Dontrell Johnson’s 54-yard punt return.
