Panthers top Lions,
seek playoff berth

Martin Middle School rolled to a big win over a county rival last week.
A win over a regional opponent Thursday would be even bigger.
The Panthers knocked off Dresden 52-20 last Thursday night and will battle Paris Inman for a TMSAA West Tennessee area playoff berth this week.
In its win over the Lions, Martin got touchdown runs of 46, 49 and 88 yards from Bret Covington and scoring rushes of 50 yards and one yard from Dallas Callins.
Callins also threw a pair of two-point conversion passes to Koby Ashmore, while Parker Beal ran an interception back 38 yards for a score and added three two-point conversions.
Jason Hicks had 16-yard TD run for Martin.
Zack Jones led the Panthers with 12 tackles, while Hicks and Beal each had 11 tackles.
Hicks also broke up three passes, intercepted another pass and stripped the ball from a Dresden player. Beal, meanwhile, broke up two passes in addition to his pick six.

Deadline nearing
for duck blind draw

The application deadline is midnight Wednesday to participate in the computerized drawing for duck blind sites on Bogota and Thorny Cypress Wildlife Management Areas in Dyer County and four units on the Chickamauga WMA.
The application period began Sept. 7. The four units on Chickamauga WMA are Candies Creek, Johnson Bottoms, Rogers Creek, and Yellow Creek.
For more information and to apply for the drawing, visit the TWRA website at www.tnwildlife.org and click on the icon under the Hot Topics section on the front page.

TWRA clarifies
wild turkey harvest

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is making a clarification as there have been several inquiries concerning the harvest of wild turkeys in counties that have a fall turkey gun season.
Archers are allowed to harvest one turkey during the archery-only deer season in each of the counties listed that have a fall turkey gun season. (A list of counties that have a fall turkey season is located in 2011 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide).
