Tickets now on sale
for OC-Covington

Advanced tickets for Friday night’s District 13AA showdown between Covington and Obion Central are on sale at the school.
Tickets are $5 each and are available at the OCCHS front office.
Both advanced ticket holders and those with season tickets are encouraged to enter the pass gate, rather than the normal ticket gate.
Obion Central officials have brought in two sets of portable bleachers for the south endzone to accommodate the expected large crowd.

Lady Rebs, Devilettes
finish in 1-1 deadlock

Obion Central and South Fulton battled to a 1-1 tie Tuesday in high school soccer.
Laina Roberson scored the Lady Rebels’ only goal in the second half. Taylor Baker had seven saves in goal for OC.
South Fulton did not report its match statistics.
Central (5-8-2) will play at McKenzie Saturday morning at 10:30 in its final regular season match before the postseason begins next week.

Calipari, Rose return
Final Four money

MEMPHIS (AP) — Coach John Calipari and former Memphis guard Derrick Rose have agreed to pay $100,000 each to avoid a lawsuit over the Tigers’ season that ended in the 2008 Final Four with the wins later vacated by the NCAA.
Calipari left Memphis for Kentucky in May 2009. Rose left for the NBA after his freshman year. Calipari and Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson committed to repaying Final Four bonuses in a confidential settlement signed on May 28, 2010.
Three attorneys represented “certain ticket holders” who argued they bought tickets under false pretenses and threatened to sue. The Commercial Appeal first obtained a copy of the agreement under Tennessee’s open records laws.
Calipari is repaying $232,000 over four years. Rose will consider making a donation to the scholarship fund within five years.

Lady Vols’ Spani
has elbow surgery

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee junior guard Taber Spani has had surgery on her left elbow to remove scar tissue buildup.
Jenny Moshak, Tenne-ssee associate athletics director for sports medicine, says the left-handed Spani will begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to return to play in three to four weeks.
She averaged eight points, 4.1 rebounds and 22.8 minutes per game last season.
The Lady Volunteers recently began practicing for the 2011-12 season and host their first exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Carson-Newman.
