DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Danville is attracting retirees from around the country to central Kentucky with a low cost of living and a thriving arts community.
National publications have recently taken notice of what the town offers the over-50 set.
This month’s edition of Money magazine named Danville one of the top five places to retire in the U.S.
Retiree Pamela Blackburn said she and her husband retired to Danville from Little Rock, Ark., after they visited the town and noticed the vibrant downtown and its clean streets.
“We were sitting in the Hub having coffee and I looked out at the streets and said to David, ‘they clean the streets here,”’ Blackburn told The Advocate-Messenger in Danville, the town’s newspaper
“It was still winter, but you could see that it was important to keep things looking nice. We went down the street to find a realtor right after that.”
The town also will be featured in the November issue of Where to Retire magazine.
Local officials are hoping to perpetuate the image of the town as a destination for retirement.
