Martin MS football
falls to Paris Inman

Martin Middle School recently completed its 2011 football season with a 26-16 loss to Paris Inman.
Parker Beal was, once again, a force on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. He rushed for 187 yards and a touchdown on eight carries while also piling up 15 tackles and breaking up a pass.
Quasay Chandler added 13 tackles, and Jason Hicks had 10 stops for Martin.

Fans can also buy their Ohio Valley Conference Tournament tickets now. The OVC ticket book includes tickets for all 14 tournament games (seven men and seven women) set for Feb. 28-March 3 at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville. The OVC ticket book is on sale for $60 each.

This year’s schedule includes six doubleheaders.

Skyhawk rugby team
to host Murray State

The University of Tennessee at Martin rugby team will face Murray State in a game scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday on the UT Martin campus.
The game will be played on the large recreational field located at the intersection of Skyhawk Parkway and University Street.
Rugby is a club sport at UT Martin, and the game with Murray State marks the team’s first match this fall.
Admission to the game is free, with parking available adjacent to the recreational field on the east side.

UTM soccer squad
seeks wildest fans

The UT Martin soccer team will divvy out $250 to the wildest group of fans at both its matches on Friday and Sunday.
The contest is open to all ages, including UT Martin student organizations. Also, the first 100 students through the gate at the match at 1 p.m. on Sunday will receive a free T-shirt.
The Skyhawks are currently 9-6-2 with a 3-3-1 Ohio Valley Conference record. The pair of home matches this weekend will close out the regular season before the OVC tournament takes place on Nov. 3-6. UTM will likely need at least one more victory to qualify for the program’s 11th OVC tournament appearance.
UTM will play host to Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m. on Friday.
Two days later, the Skyhawks will host Jacksonville State on Senior Day.
At the half, head coach Phil McNamara and his staff will recognize Melissa Govea, Katie Imperiale, Rosaelia Loza, Lauren MacKenzie and Brooke Robertson for their careers.
