Dresden tops Gleason
in jayvee hoops play

Dreden swept Gleason in a pair of junior high basketball games on Thursday, winning 41-33 in the girls’ game and then 32-19 in boys’ play.
Haley Browning topped the Lady Lions with 16 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers.
Eight Dresden players scored, including Alex Sledd with six and Marlana Spivey, Alexis Osteen and Callen Kille-brew with five.
Madison Arnold had 28 of Gleason’s points, hitting 14-of-18 at the free throw line to go with seven field goals.
Dresser Winn led the Dresden boys with 15 points, followed by Quincy McDonald with seven and Jordan Mitchell with six.
Lucio Solano had 11 points and Tracy Perry added eight as the only Gleason players to score.

C’burg no match
for Bulldog teams

Gleason claimed a sweep over Clarksburg in junior high basketball action Tuesday night at Clarksburg with a 42-18 win in the girls’ game and a 31-21 decision in the boys’ game.
Madison Arnold led 12 Lady Bulldogs in the scoring column with 10, all coming on field goals in the first three periods as Gleason built a 35-12 lead.
Lucio Solano had 16 points, and Tracy Perry added eight points for the ’Dogs.

Weekend sweep sets
win mark for UTM

Midori Sera made a free kick at the 107:5 mark to give UT Martin soccer team a 2-1 double overtime victory over Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.
With the victory, and Friday’s 2-0 win over Tennessee Tech, the Skyhawks set a new school record for most victories in a single season (11).
UTM is 11-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference heading into the OVC Tournament this week.
Both teams scored in the second half of regulation play.
UT Martin’s Brooke Robertson put the Sky-hawks on top when she made a penalty kick at the 49:04 mark.
Lauren MacKenzie had four saves for the Skyhawks and played the entire 107:56 in the goal.
UTM has now won four straight over Jax State and is unbeaten in its last six outings against the Gamecocks.
The Skyhawks, winners of three consecutive matches, is the No. 3 seed in the OVC tourney and will play No. 6 Eastern Illinois 4 p.m. Thursday at SEMO.
