Westview girls host
hoops scrimmage

The Westview girls’ basketball team will host a Play Day at the Elam Center on Saturday.
All four Weakley County teams will be represented in the day-long scrimmage, which features girls’ high school basketball teams from throughout West Tennessee and western Kentucky.
Games will be played on five courts in the Elam Center.
The four local teams will each be stationed at one court throughout the day.
Westview will play on Court 6, beginning at 10 a.m. against McNairy County.
The Lady Chargers will then face Lexington at 1 p.m. and Hardin County at 4 p.m. Seven other games will be played on the court, the first game beginning at 8 a.m. and last starting at 5 p.m.
Dresden will play three of the 10 games on Court 5, the Lady Lions beginning at 9 a.m. against Chester County and followed by Lake County at 11 a.m. and Camden at 4 p.m.
Greenfield will be on Court 3, playing Dyersburg Gold at 8 a.m., Lexington at 9 a.m. and Madison at 11 a.m.
Gleason will play on Court 2 against Trenton at 8 a.m. and USJ at 9 a.m.

Skyhawk exhibitions
on WUTM radio

UT Matin basketball fans can listen to the live broadcasts of both the Skyhawk women and men’s basketball exhibition games on WUTM 90.3 FM.
The Skyhawk women open with an exhibition against Christian Brothers tonight.
WUTM news director Allison Jones will perform the play-by-play duties, with Brent Cooley as the color commentator. Fans can tune in at 6:45 p.m.
The Skyhawk men open with the Character Counts exhibition against Webster on Friday.
Airtime is 10:45 a.m.
Brandon Doyle is the play-by-play announcer with Dominique Wilson as the color commentator.
Fans can listen to WUTM on 90.3 FM or via the Internet stream at http://www.utm.edu/organizations/wutm.

UTM soccer team
earns OVC honors

UT Martin’s Melissa Govea earned 2011 OVC Defensive Player of the Year accolades as voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Southeast Missouri’s Jessie Crabtree was named the 2011 OVC Offensive Player of the year while teammate Erin Shulman was selected as the Freshman of the Year and the Redhawks’ Heather Nelson was named Coach of the Year.
Govea, a senior defender, was part of a defense that recorded six shutouts on the year.
In conference action, Govea and the Skyhawks allowed nine goals over nine games and posted three shutouts. She has made 19 starts and played 1,622 minutes so far this year.
The native of Hender-sonville recorded three assists and one goal in the regular-season.
Govea was also named to the 2011 All-OVC First Team.
She is the second Skyhawk to earn defense accolades joining Danielle Rogers in 2009.
UTM midfielder Brooke Robertson was an All-OVC first team pick, while defender Amy Maksimowicz  and midfielder Midori Sera were named to the all-newcomer team.
