UC selling tickets
for playoff game

Advance tickets for Friday night’s Union City at West Carroll Class 1A quarterfinal state playoff game will be sold at UCHS beginning Wednesday morning at 8.
The tickets will be available through Friday morning at 10.
Cost of the tickets is $8 each, and WCHS school officials are encouraging Union City fans to buy their tickets in advance because of long lines experienced at the Gleason/West Carroll game last week.
Debbe Burke is in charge of the ticket sales. The tickets will also be available at Thursday night’s playoff dinner with Tammy Sparks the contact person.

K-8 students get shot
at OC season tickets

Season basketball tickets for students in grades K-8 for the upcoming Obion Central High School season are on sale now.
The passes cost $20 each and may be purchased in either the school office or at the ticket table prior to home games.
Obion Central’s 2011-12 season begins tonight with a pair of games against visiting South Fulton. The Rebel teams host Union City on Saturday.

Devils double down
on R’mont teams

South Fulton swept Ridgemont in a middle school basketball twinbill on Monday, the Devilettes winning 36-22 and the Redmen 44-33.
SF led at every turn in both games and improved to 7-1 in girls’ play and 4-4 on the boys’ side.
Emma Glisson and Taylor Rogers both scored 10 points and Cassidy Ruddle had nine for South Fulton in the opener. Rogers also collected nine rebounds, while Ruddle had eight caroms and four steals.
Kirstlen Petrie scored 10 for R’mont, which dropped to 2-4.
In the nightcap, Jyriq Jones hit for 19 points and had eight assists and seven steals to lead SF, while teammate Chris Morris finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Nathan King led the Mustangs (3-3) with 11 markers, and Noah Cooper had 10.
Both schools are back in action on Thursday, South Fulton at home to play Hillcrest, and R’mont hosting Inman.
 
UCMS split includes
win for girls’ squad

The Union City Middle School girls’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season Monday night, beating Halls 38-26.
Chynia Hyde led the winning effort with 19 points and four rebounds, while Tykesha Vaughn scored 12 points.
Piper Warren had six steals for the victors, while Caroline Chism collected a team-best five rebounds.
The Tornado boys, meanwhile, suffered their first loss in three games, dropping a 52-46 decision.
Jeremy Bumpus had 13 points, Willaevion Burton 10 and both Joe Wiggins and Quentrail Polk eight apiece for UC.
The Twisters did win a B-game, 18-9.
Union City is back in action again tonight, hosting Lake Road.
