Isaiah Canaan scored 16 points to help the Racers (3-0) win their 13th straight nonconference home game and ninth overall.
After leading 19-17 in the first 10 minutes of the half, the Racers locked down on the Crusaders and finished the half holding them to seven points on only five more shot attempts.
Canaan hit one of his three 3-pointers on the night at the four minute mark to give Murray State a 38-28 lead. The Racers had a 46-24 advantage at the half.
Donte Poole scored 15 points, Jewuan Long added 11 while Zay Jackson and Ed Daniel both recorded 12 points for Murray State.
John Reik, the only Tennessee Temple (3-4) player to score more than six points, tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds.

AARP inspired
to honor Summitt

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee’s Pat Summitt is among a dozen recipients of AARP The Magazine’s Inspire Awards in the wake of the coach’s announcement that she has dementia.
According to AARP, the awards pay tribute to people who inspire action in others.
Summitt has said she decided to reveal she’d been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type, because she wanted others to understand that they could continue to live their life with the disease. Summitt has led the Lady Volunteers to eight national championships and says she is determined to continue to coach as long as she is able.
Other Inspire Awards recipients include conservationist Jane Goodall, late Apple Inc. founder Steve Jobs, U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye and country music singer Toby Keith.

Memphis men’s team

MEMPHIS (AP) — The No. 10 Memphis Tigers have gotten a signed national letter of intent from William “Shaq” Goodwin to join the program as part of the 2012 signing class.
The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward from Decatur, Ga., has been ranked as the best prospect from Georgia and anywhere from the 19th prospect nationally by ESPNU to 26th best by Yahoo!/Rivals.com. He joins AAU Atlanta Celtics teammate Dam-ien Wilson in signing with the Tigers.
