Afterschool 4-H club selects officers | Union City Afterschool 4-H Club

The Union City Afterschool 4-H Club recently held its November meeting at the Obion County Public Library.
Election of officers was held. Those elected were Jonathan Ryder, president; Ben Clanton, vice-president; Madelyn Hogan, secretary; Matthew Ryder, photographer; Grace Kennedy, reporter; and Carol Ann Clanton, refreshment coordinator.
Public speaking was the contest of the month. Those giving speeches will move on to the county contest to be held on Dec. 6 at Ridgemont Elementary.
Members were asked to bring homemade Christmas cards to Una Johnson at the University of Tennessee Extension Service in Union City or to adult volunteer Donna Ryder at The Messenger before Dec. 9. These cards will be sent to the recovering soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Next month’s meeting will be held at the library on Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. The contest will be homemade Christmas decorations. The members will also participate in a demonstration of making cards using scrapbooking materials.
The Union City Afterschool 4-H Club is open to all Union City School System students in grades 3-8 and all home-schooled children in Obion County.
There is no fee to join the 4-H club.
