Ex-Lady Reb Fussell
earns Big 12 honor

Former Obion County Central girls’ basketball standout and current University of Texas sophomore guard Chassidy Fussell was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week last week.
Fussell led Texas to three straight wins and was named Most Valuable Player at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown (Nov. 25-27). She scored a career-high 30 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a 4-of-9 career-high tying mark from beyond the arc, against No. 22 Virginia.
For the week, she averaged 20.0 points and 3.7 rebounds. Fussell shot 50 percent from the field (21-of-42) and 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free throw line.
The recognition marks Fussell’s fourth league honor after earning three freshman of the week accolades last season.
The voting was conducted by a panel of media covering Big 12 women’s basketball.
Fussell and the No. 21 Longhorns return to action on Sunday when they take on No. 8 Tennessee in Knoxville.

EKU tops OVC list
through fall sports

BRENTWOOD — After the completion of the fall sport championships, Eastern Kentucky leads the 2011-12 Ohio Valley Conference Com-missioner’s Cup all-sport trophy standings.
It marks the fourth year in a row the Colonels have been on top of the standings following the fall championships. This season EKU was paced by first-place finishes in men’s cross country and football and second-place finishes in women’s cross country and soccer.
Eastern Kentucky (46.5 total points) has a five-point lead over second-place SEMO (41.5), who was the OVC regular season champion in soccer this year.
