Students attend RisingStar summit

LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTEND FIRST RISINGSTAR LEADERSHIP SUMMIT – Two Weakley County high school students attended the first RisingStar Leadership Summit held on Nov. 17-18 at the University of Tennessee at Martin. A total of 37 high school juniors and seniors attended the event, which taught students leadership skills through team building exercises. The summit was sponsored by the WestStar Leadership program, Ayers Foundation and UT Martin. On hand were (from left), Marvin Flatt director of career and technical education with Weakley County schools; Virginia Grimes, coordinator of the WestStar Leadership Program; Conner Verdall; Brooke Baker; Charley Deal, director of alumni relations at UT Martin and executive director of the WestStar Leadership Program; and Barbara Virgin, executive director of the Weakley County Chamber.
