Chargers’ Taylor
in East-West game

Westview two-way lineman Damani Taylor has been chosen to play in the fifth annual Toyota East vs. West All-Star Classic.
The 6-foot, 300-pound Taylor — an all-stater last season as a junior — joined his teammates for practice on Tuesday in Jefferson City for the contest, which will be played Saturday at noon on the campus of Carson-Newman College.
Taylor is penciled in to play defensive tackle in the game, a position where he shined he senior campaign after earning accolades as an offensive tackle in 2010.
About 90 high school seniors from across Tennessee were divided into East and West teams for the annual classic. More than a dozen of those players have already made early commitments to FBS programs, including Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.
South Fulton head coach Kelly Spivey, Dyer County skipper Adam Renshaw and Lexington’s Bryant Hollingsworth are all serving as assistant coaches on the West squad.

Dresden girls to play
in Coaches/Cancer

One Weakley County team will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Saturday at Obion County Central High School.
The Dresden girls will play in the second of seven games on the schedule, taking on Munford at 12:30 p.m.
The first game will feature Union City vs. Bolivar in girls’ play at 11 a.m.
Following Dresden’s game will be the first of three boys’ games with Munford playing Ripley at 2 p.m. Gibson County will face McNairy Central in the next two games, girls at 3:30 p.m. and boys at 5.
The host school will finish up the event by playing Lexington at 6:30 (girls) and 8 (boys).

Basketball camp
slated for Westview

The Westview Basket-ball Christmas Skills Camp is slated for all day Saturday at the Westview gymnasium.
The camp is open to players in grades pre-K through eighth grade. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.
Pizza for lunch is included in the $25 registration fee.
