U of M to award degrees Saturday

Jan Young, executive director of the Assisi Foundation, will address graduates at the winter commencement of the University of Memphis Saturday at FedExForum. The university will award a total of 1,549 degrees, including 38 doctorates, in two ceremonies. At 10 a.m., the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Communication and Fine Arts, the University College and the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law will confer degrees. At 2 p.m., commencement will be held for the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, the College of Education, the Herff College of Engineering, the Loewenberg School of Nursing, the School of Public Health and the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Young, who earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1983 from U of M, has had a distinguished career in education, health care, the military and philanthropy.
