R’mont, Lake County
split hoops games

Ridgemont and Lake County split a middle school basketball twinbill on Tuesday, the Lady Mustangs winning 20-15 before the R’mont boys dropped a 64-45 decision.
Bailey Daniel had nine points and five rebounds to help R’mont improve to 7-9 in Game 1. Landry Webster hauled in 10 rebounds for the victors, who led at the end of every quarter and did not allow a point in the third period.
LC dropped the Mustang boys to 11-6 in their first game since winning the Obion County School System championship in mid-December.
Cameron Flowers had 16 points and Nathan King 11 for Ridgemont.
The Mustang teams will play at Paris Inman on Thursday.

Benefit will help
wrestler Kamala

Wide Open Wrestling (WOW) will present a tribute to Kamala The Ugandan Giant Jan. 15 at 5 p.m.
The locally-produced show — which holds its matches at Buck’s Celebration Center in South Fulton (across from Buck’s Party Mart in Fulton) — will donate some of the proceeds from the event to help with medical bills incurred by the wrestling legend who reportedly has recently had three surgeries, including one to amputate his left leg.
Kamala began his career in the sports entertainment field in the 1970s and has wrestled all over the world, including with the two major organizations (WWE and WCW).
An eight-man elimination cage match and a 20-man battle royal will highlight the Jan. 15 card. There will also be two ladies’ matches and a midget match, according to the promoters.
Tickets to the tribute event are $8 in advance and will be $10 at the door. A family pack of five tickets is available for $35. In addition to Buck’s Party Mart, tickets can be purchased at N Style Fashion on Broadway in South Fulton.

UK hires Cassity
for defense role

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky coach Joker Phillips has announced he has hired Mike Cassity to coach defensive backs to fill the spot left by Steve Brown.
Cassity began his coaching career as a student coach at Kentucky in 1975. He was a part-time assistant coach in 1979 and a full-time assistant defensive backs coach in 1980-81 when Phillips was a freshman on the team.
