District 77 state Rep. Bill Sanderson of Kenton released his fundraising numbers for 2011 today, announcing that he has raised $54,625 prior to the start of the 2012 legislative session. Legislators are prohibited by law from receiving contributions while the General Assembly is in session.
“I go to work every day as state representative focused on expanding job opportunities and improving schools in northwest Tennessee. The overwhelming level of support I have received from the community has been humbling,” said the Kenton businessman, who was elected to office in November 2010 and has just completed his first year of service. Representatives serve two-year terms.
Sanderson is a small business owner. He operates a family-owned regional furniture and appliance store that has been part of the community for 30 years.
“While I believe that government cannot create jobs, I believe it should spur job creation by investing in our communities. We need to complete I-69 and the northwest Tennessee Port. We need to make sure that our children get the highest quality education to prepare them for the workforce. That is what I am fighting for as state representative.”
Sanderson was born in Union City, the son of Billy Sanderson and Diane Sanderson. He attended the former Kenton School, where he was involved in FFA, and graduated from the former Lambuth College in Jackson.
The representative’s district includes Lake, Dyer and Obion counties and he serves on the House Transportation and Agriculture committees. He will be seeking re-election in November 2012.
