‘Heaven’ to be featured
Fred Overton will be at Woodland Mills First Baptist Church on Sunday to speak on Heaven in a three-part series beginning at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.
The series will continue through the 11 a.m. worship service and will conclude in the 6 p.m. worship service.
Overton, former head basketball coach at Murray (Ky.) State University, is a nationwide motivational speaker. According to his testimony, he was gloriously saved in 1980 under the preaching of Dr. Charles Stanley.
In the ’80s, he was in full-time secular sales work, taught adult Sunday School at First Baptist Atlanta and attended Luther Rice Seminary by correspondence.
In September 1991, he was called into full-time Christian work teaching his seminar “Is the Bible Reliable?” Since then, he has developed additional seminars, including “The Tabernacle in the Wilderness,” “Heaven,” “Foundational Truths of Scripture,” “Revelation,” “Rightly Dividing the Word,” “From Here to Eternity” and “Victory Over Death.”
He recently developed a new study which is presented as a Bible conference, “Defending Your Faith.”
He now lives in Sugar Hill, Ga., and attends Blackshear Place Baptist Church. His ministry is now nationwide.

Mission emphasis set
First Assembly of God, located at 1810 Pleasant Valley Ave. in Union City, will host a missions-emphasis Sunday in both worship services at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. J.R. Gould, a former missionary to Kenya, Africa, for 14 years, will be the guest speaker for both services. Lead pastor the Rev. Tommy Hall and the people of First Assembly invite the community to join them either on-campus or to watch live online at www.uc1ag.com.


Soul food offered
Exchange Street Church of Christ’s Soul Food Cafe will feature homemade soup, sub sandwiches, salad and dessert free for all who wish to join them for the meal Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m.

Noting new beginning
The Rev. Harry Hayes and members of  Church of Jesus for All will host a service to thank God for another year and to begin a new year in His care. The Rev. Buster Johnson of New Beginning in Water Valley, Ky., will be the speaker Sunday at 3 p.m. and his congregation will be special guests.
The church is located at 817 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City. The community is invited to attend.

Scholarship event set
The trustees of the Honor Scholarship program for youth in the Twin Cities will be hosting the annual Honor Scholarship program Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. at United Church of the Living God in Fulton.
Youth from churches in that area will perform songs, dances, readings and skits and the Rev. Claudette Snorton, pastor of Bells Chapel CME Church in Fulton, will deliver the message.
The public is invited to attend.
“We earnestly thank you for the support given throughout the years and hope you will continue to help further the educations of Twin Cities’ youth,” a spokesman said.

CP sevices set
The Rev. Mike Osment, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City chaplain, will fill the pulpit Sunday at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church for the morning worship service at 11. His sermon is “Created With Class,” taken from Psalm 8:3-9 and   Ephesians 2:10.  
On Sunday night the congregation will host the fifth Sunday church family gathering at 5 with a chili and soup supper and potluck sandwiches and desserts.  
Visitors will be welcome, a spokesman said.
The church is located at 631 East Church St.

Sunday night will be the fifth Sunday church family gathering featuring a chili and soup supper with potluck sandwiches and desserts. Supper starts at 5 p.m. and visitors will be welcome.
