Ex-OC star Roney
earns TSAC honor
Former Obion County Central standout Jana Roney — now a standout at Bethel University — was recently named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Roney, a 5-10 senior forward who was a two-time all-stater and Miss Basketball finalist for the Lady Rebels, averaged a double-double for the Wildcats who were 2-1 last week.
She averaged 23.3 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists per game on the week. Her top performance was a 28-point and 13-rebound effort in Bethel’s win over Lyon College.
Against the Scots, Roney was 10-for-17 from the field and hit 8-of-10 from the foul line. Roney scored at least 20 points and had 11 rebounds in all three games during the week.
For the week Roney hit 25-of-43 (58 percent) from the field and hit 19-of-24 (79 percent) from the foul line.
Registration slated
for OCLL season
Signups for the upcoming Obion County Little League season will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5-7 p.m.
Registration fee is $20 per child.
Those youths at Hillcrest School will sign up at Troy First Baptist Church, while youngsters from Lake Road School will register at the Woodland Mills Civiv Center.
Youths ages 4-12 are eligible to play.

Dickey returning
to lead Tiger ‘O’
MEMPHIS (AP) — Memphis football head coach Justin Fuente has filled out his Tigers’ offensive staff by hiring Darrell Dickey away from Texas State as his offensive coordinator, bringing him back to Memphis.
Fuente announced the move Wednesday.
Dickey was offensive coordinator at Memphis from 1987 through 1989 when the Tigers beat Alabama in 1987 and Florida in 1988. Dickey, who will also coach running backs, has been offensive coordinator at UTEP, SMU, Utah State and New Mexico and Texas State last year. Dickey was head coach at North Texas State from 1998 to 2006.
Holman Wiggins will move from coaching running backs to receivers. Fuente hired Brad Cornelsen as his quarterbacks coach on Tuesday. Cornelsen had spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator.
