Ex-Rebel assistant
gets Kenwood job

Former Obion County Central defensive coordinator Kevin Goltra has been named the new head coach at Kenwood High School in Clarksville.
The 35-year-old Gultra was the Rebels’ defensive coordinator in 2009.
He served in the same role at Kenwood the past two seasons.
The Knights last made the playoffs and had a winning record in 2007, when they went 8-3.
The program failed to win more than three games in any year since and has compiled a 9-31 mark during that time.
In his brief tenure with the OCCHS program, Goltra helped turn around a Rebel defense that improved immensely from a winless season the year before to a 6-5 playoff campaign in 2009.

Suiter steps away
from WV softball

J.B. Suiter is stepping away from the Westview softball program.
Jessica Hightower is stepping in.
Suiter, who led the Lady Chargers to four straight state tournaments from 2007-10 and 183 wins during his seven seasons, has handed over the reins of the team to Hightower, his assistant the past three years.
The transition was brought about by Suiter’s desire for more family time and to also focus on his pursuit of a doctorate degree. He plans to continue in his other coaching role with the Westview boys’ basketball program.
Hightower came to WHS after a three-year stint as head coach at McKenzie and was a decorated college career at UT Martin.
Meagan Prince, who has verbally committed to Kentucky, is expected to step into the role of ace pitcher following the graduation of two-time all-stater Shaylon Robb, who signed with Eastern Kentucky.

Skyhawks’ Butler
earns OVC honor

UT Martin sophomore Heather Butler was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her effort Monday night and last Saturday.
Butler, who recently became UT Martin’s 12th 1000th-point scorer, scored 42 points against Tennessee State to set a new school single-game scoring mark. The old record of 40 points was set in 1989.
She had 25 points vs. Southeast Missouri. Butler was perfect at the free throw line in the two games and shot 65 percent from the field and 66 percent from behind the arc.
Butler has scored double-digit points in 52 consecutive games.

UT Martin will help one of its own Saturday.
An OVC doubleheader against Murray State begins at 4 p.m., and has been dubbed We Back Pat, a national initiative focused on bringing awareness and recognition to the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.
The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund believes no family should have to hear a diagnosis like Pat’s: early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type. The fund will make grants to nonprofits which provide: education and awareness of Alzheimer’s, its onset and treatment; support services to patients, their families and caregivers; and research to treat, prevent, cure and ultimately eradicate Alzheimer’s.
