Damon Douthit, a student in Tina Grissom’s regular first-grade class at Union City Elementary School, recently spread some cheer to others at Christmas.
Damon, 7-year-old son of Danal and Marie Douthit of Union City, attends the Therapy and Learning Cen-ter in Jackson as a supplementary service once a week. He has autism and has been a student at UCES since he was 3 years old.
He recently spent a morning prior to Christmas distributing cards to all his teachers he has had since his preschool years at UCES, touching their hearts and bringing tears of joy and pride to many. The center in Jackson chose four winners from West Tennnessee for the Christmas card contest and sold the cards as a fundraiser.
The center serves children and adults who have a variety of developmental delays, as well as serves area school systems and provides therapy and assessment services for children birth to 18 in an outpatient clinic setting.
UCES principal George Leake said the Douthits are an invaluable resource to the school and go above and beyond to make Damon’s success “a team effort” with his teachers and staff.
