‘Golden’ effort

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Trae Golden scored 16 points to lead the Volunteers in their 73-62 win against Georgia on Saturday night.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Bulldogs held a 41-34 lead with 14:25 to play when Jordan McRae hit a 3-pointer for Tennessee.
The Vols (11-12, 3-5 SEC) used a 10-2 run to pad their lead. The Bulldogs pulled within six points in the final minute, but Tennessee went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line during the stretch.
Jeronne Maymon scored 15 points for the Vols, despite constant double-team coverage. McRae added 14 points, and Skylar McBee, who made his first career start in place of Golden, added 10.

Lady Vol defense
shuts down Auburn

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee forced 23 turnovers that led to 21 points as the Lady Vols earned an 82-61 win over Auburn on Sunday.
The Lady Vols (17-6, 8-2) buckled down, coming up with steals and making shots more difficult. By the end of the game, Auburn had 23 turnovers that resulted in 21 points compared to 11 turnovers by Tennessee.
Glory Johnson, who had spent much of the South Carolina loss in foul trouble, led the way inside with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ariel Massengale scored 14 points, Meighan Simmons added 13 points and Shekinna Stricklen had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Tennessee outshot Auburn 50 percent to 37 percent after halftime.

Top-ranked ’Cats
not tested on road

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Anthony Davis had 22 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks to lead top-ranked Kentucky to its 15th straight victory, 86-52, over the Gamecocks on Saturday night.
Doron Lamb had 18 points, Terrence Jones 16 and the Wildcats (23-1) shot 51.6 percent as they moved to 9-0 in the SEC for the first time in seven years.
