UC softball ’berries
ready for pick-up

Those who ordered strawberries from the Union City High School softball team may pick them up this afternoon at 3:30 at the high school, according to an organizer of the fundraiser.
Head coach Shane Sisco said there are a few extra flats of the berries available for those who didn’t order.
Cost is $15 for a half-flat and $25 for a full flat.

Interference ends
pair on NWA card

A no-contest match, a disqualification and a hard-fought win by Bull Bronson highlighted action in the squared circle on the NWA Warriors of Wrestling card Saturday night.
Interference in two matches caused one to be stopped and the other to end in a DQ.
The Fabulous Rocker and Ty Blade fought to a no contest when “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony and Chic Canyon got involved in the match.
Then, in tag team action, Rocker and Anthony were disqualified in their match with Canyon and Blade when Bronson interfered as Rocker and Anthony were getting pummeled.
Ike Tucker then stormed the ring, causing Rocker, Anthony and Bronson to flee.
Bronson weathered his biggest test to date with a win over Tucker, while other matches saw Anthony defeat Blade and Canyon top Shawn Reed.
This weekend’s main event has NWA Southern Heavyweight champion Drew Haskins returning to Union City to defend his title against No. 3 contender Jerimiah Plunkett.
Another wrestling legend is slated to appear in Union City, while the card will also feature, Anthony, Rocker, “The Trend Setter” Jon Michael and other NWA/WOWF superstars.

UT Martin pitcher
tops conference list

UT Martin senior softball pitcher Chelsea Jones has been named College Sports Madness’ Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her performance during this past weekend’s series against SIU Edwardsville.
Jones opened the series against SIUE in the circle and threw her 10th complete game of the season as she led the Skyhawks to a 9-3 victory.
She came on in relief in the second game and pitched 11⁄3 innings to close out the Skyhawks 7-6 win.
She closed out the series on Sunday by pitching her 11th complete game of the season.
Jones struck out eight batters in the series opener and one in her relief appearance.
However, she faced 28 batters in the series finale Sunday and did not get one strikeout. She did get nine ground-outs and 12 fly outs.
Jones collected two wins and a save in the three games. She pitched 151⁄3 innings and sported a 1.37 ERA, only allowing three earned runs.
Jones, from Tullahoma, is 9-3 on the year.
College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in its weekly feature.
