Ladd tournament
hosting 7 teams
The Union City Turf Management Department will host the inaugural L.H. Ladd Memorial Baseball Classic Wednesday through Saturday at city ballparks Elam Stadium at LH Ladd Field and Thompson Field.
The late L.H. Ladd was involved in youth baseball for most of his lifetime and influenced several of today’s youth coaches and players.
The tournament bearing his name will feature high school baseball teams from Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee. Admission is $5 per day.
The Classic schedule is listed below:
Wednesday
Elam Stadium at LH Ladd Field — 4:30 p.m. Crockett County vs Union City; 6:30 p.m. Lone Oak vs Huntingdon
Thursday
Elam Stadium at LH Ladd Field — 4:30 p.m. Huntingdon vs Crockett County; 6:30 p.m. Dyersburg vs Calloway County
Friday
Elam Stadium at LH Ladd Field — 2 p.m. Dyersburg vs Russellville; 4:30 p.m. Dyersburg vs Lone Oak; 6:30 p.m. Lone Oak vs Russellville
Thompson Field — 4:30 p.m. Calloway County vs Union City; 6:30 p.m. Calloway County vs Crockett County
Saturday
Elam Stadium at LH Ladd Field — 11 a.m. Russellville vs Huntingdon; 1 p.m. Russellville vs Crockett County; 3 p.m. Huntingdon vs Calloway County
Thompson Field — 12:30 p.m. Union City vs Dyersburg; 2:30 p.m. Union City vs Lone Oak
Dutch Mantell coming
to UC wrestling event
The Showdown Before Mania will feature an old-school match with a legend serving as referee.
A best two-out-of-three falls, 60-minute time limit match for the NWA Southern Heavyweight championship with “The Dirty Dutchman” Dutch Mantell serving as special referee/enforcer will be the main event on the card for March 31.
Prior to that, however, this weekend’s card will have a tag team grudge match between “The Trendsetter” Jon Michael and Naughty By Nature “Rude” against “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony and Bull Bronson.
Other matches will have Scott Parteau taking on D.C. Cross and Ron Horn battling Farmer Billy Hills. The Fabulous Rocker, Joseph Borne and “The Blues Man” Ike Tucker will also appear.
