Finney earns top fifth legislator award
Jackson – State Sen. Lowe Finney, a Dresden native, was recently named the Northwest Tennessee Development District’s Legislator of the Year, the fifth consecutive year he has been honored.
“Our development districts across the state are often the first point of contact for many of our seniors and local government officials when they need guidance regarding programs and services,” Finney said.
“John Bucy and his staff do a great job in working with our counties to create healthy communities for our citizens.”
The NWTDD helps local governments obtain grants for revitalization and infrastructure projects for communities in Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties.
“Senator Finney remains a strong, reliable voice for Northwest Tennessee communities both here at home and up at the Capitol,” Gibson County Mayor Tom Witherspoon said.
“He understands the needs and goals of our local governments, and he always works to ensure we can serve our citizens in the most efficient and effective way possible.”
The NWTDD is also well known for its Area Agencies on Aging and Disability, which fund services for seniors like assisted living – a topic that has been particularly important to Finney.
Finney passed and expanded the Long-Term Care CHOICES program that allows thousands of Tennessee seniors to receive quality home health care at no additional cost.
“This year, we will be able to provide 11,000 seniors across the state with quality, in-home health care that keeps families together and saves taxpayer dollars,” Finney said.
“These agencies are a big part of making sure that our seniors are able to live their lives to the fullest, and it’s an honor to be a part of such good work.”
Finney has won the NWTDD award every year since 2008. He also received Legislator of the Year awards from the Southwest Tennessee Development District in 2008 and 2010.
