Special service planned
Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 631 East  Church St., will welcome the Bethel University  Renaissance Acts group to share interpretations of the “good news” Sunday at 11 a.m. A group of 20 participants will present the program.
Bethel University’s Renaissance Acts is a component of Renaissance, the Bethel Performing Arts Experience, which encompasses vocal talent, instrumental talent and dramatic talent. Serving as ambassadors of Bethel University, Renaissance performs a wide range of musical styles and inspires its audiences to praise God. Renaissance has wowed audiences across the nation and even abroad, according to a spokesman.
This group of talented students travels to churches and performs at many different events. In this year’s theme, “This Is My Story,” passionate students share their personal stories of struggle and triumph using drama, music, sign language, human videos and much more. “’This Is My Story’ will inspire you to walk in a deeper faith, as well as challenge you to share your story with others,” the spokesman said.
The community is invited to join the congregation for prayer at 9:45, with Sunday school at 10 and Holy Grounds coffee fellowship at 10:40.
The nursery will be available and services will be broadcast live on Channel 26 and  cable channel 10.
On April 22, the congregation will welcome a new pastor, the Rev. Drew Hayes, from Bowling Green.

To honor Joneses
Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church in Woodland Mills will honor the pastor and his wife, the Rev. James and Mary Jones, for 28 years of service Sunday. Leroy Crumble will be the speaker at 11 a.m. and the Rev. William Jarrett of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Henning will lead the 3 p.m. service. A meal will be served upon the arrival of guests.
The community is invited to join the congregation for this special occasion.

Conference planned
Mt. Zion CME Church in Union City will host the Southwest District of the East Tennessee annual conference Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Fifty pastors and presiding elders, plus several annual conference representatives, are expected to attend.
Dr. Carmichael Crutch-field, general secretary of Christian Education for the denomination, will lead a Christian education workshop.
The day’s events are open to the public, according to the church’s pastor, the Rev. Darrell Turner.

3-Sunday revival slated
Shady Grove United Methodist Church, located at 5134 Virgin Road, off Shady Grove Road just northwest of Union City, will begin a spring revival that will take place on three consecutive Sundays, beginning this week.
Cathy Barnett, lay speaker, will fill the pulpit Sunday at 6 p.m.
A time of fellowship will follow.
The community is invited to attend this service and the revival meetings that will follow April 22 and 29, according to the interim pastor, the Rev. Jim Calhoun.

Event canceled
The Tea Party planned as a fund raiser for the junior youth group at Pentecostal Tabernacle in Water Valley, Ky., has been canceled, according to a spokesman.

Concert planned
Renaissance from Bethel University in McKenzie will present a musical program that incorporates the gifts of singers in a large choir, a quartet, a praise group, a bluegrass group and a live band Sunday at 6 p.m. at Union City Second Baptist Church at 831 Everett Blvd.
A love offering will be accepted.
The Rev. Eddie Mallonee and music director Barry Keathley invite the community to attend.

Yard sale planned
Pleasant Valley United Methodist Women will have a yard sale for missions Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon.
All proceeds will go to Reelfoot Rural Ministries to provide food and assistance to many families in Obion, Lake and Dyer counties. The church is located at 1422 Pleasant Valley Ave. in Union City.

To mark anniversary
Bashan Baptist Church in Rives will celebrate 114 years of proclaiming the gospel Sunday. The Rev. Paul Jenkins of Miles Chapel in Martin will be the guest speaker at 3 p.m. A meal will be served when guests arrive.
The Rev. R.L. Dotstry is pastor. The community is invited to attend.
