The Messenger 04.16.12

The award-winning drama “Proof,” a script written by David Auburn, is coming to the University of Tennessee at Martin, beginning Thursday.
The cast consists of Lizzie Wouters, a senior from Knoxville; Cody Jarman, a freshman from Clarksville; Christina Camper, a senior from Scotts Hill; and Stan Suiter, a senior from Martin.
Performances are set for 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Shows will be in the Student Life Center at the corner of University Street and Moody Avenue in Martin.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for UT Martin students and children. They are available at the door and through the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts.
“Proof” tells the story of Catherine, a young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. After his death, Catherine must deal with her estranged sister, Claire; a former student of her father’s and potential suitor, Hal; and her own troubled emotions.
The play won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for Best Play in 2001.
“Vanguard Theatre, in an effort to serve both the campus and the community, believes that an offering such as this will provide a provocative and entertaining night of theatre,” said Ken Zimmerman, Vanguard director. “We strive to present a wide range of plays that will appeal to the greatest number of theatre goers.”
