Each semester, the University of Tennessee at Martin recognizes outstanding faculty for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
Linda Butler, associate professor and head of acquisitions at the Paul Meek Library on the UT Martin campus, was recently named the Featured Faculty Scholar for spring 2012 during a ceremony last month.
“I’m so grateful for the appreciation and acknowledgement of my work,” Ms. Butler said during a ceremony held in the lobby of the library.
Originally from Jackson, Ms. Butler has been with the university since 1987, when she began as an assistant catalog librarian. She was promoted to head of acquisitions in 1998 and has been responsible for managing ordering, receiving and payment of all library materials.
“She’s a published author in our discipline, which is hard to do,” said Mary Carpenter, library director, who nominated Ms. Butler for the award.
Ms. Butler received a bachelor of arts degree from the former Memphis State University in 1972 and a master of science in library science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1984. She has worked as a practicum student in Lawson McGhee Public Library in Knoxville and as a junior and senior librarian at Elizabeth Public Library in Elizabeth, N.J.
Ms. Butler is a member of Friends of the Paul Meek Library, the West Tennessee Academic Lib-rary Consortium and the Jackson Purchase Historical Society.
