FSB officer now an advisor

Posted: Tuesday, April 24, 2012 7:00 pm

Barry Matthews, vice president and trust officer at First State, recently earned the designation of Certified Trust Financial Advisor.
The CTFA designation is an industry-recognized certification that is conferred by The Institute of Certified Bankers, a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association.
In order to receive the designation, Matthews completed a three-year course of studies through the Cannon Financial Institute’s Trust School and passed a national certification examination in February.
The coursework and exam covered estate and trust law, fiduciary administration, taxation, investments, insurance, ethics and other areas of trust management.
Matthews has been with First State since 2007 and currently serves as community relations and business development officer.
He holds a business degree and a B.B.A in accounting from the former Lambuth University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to his tenure with First State, Matthews served as president and CEO of United Way of West Tennessee and executive director of the Southwest Tennessee Development District. He is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants and The Tennessee Bankers Association Governmental Relations Committee.  He is also a member of the Jackson-Madison County Homeownership Alliance, the American Heart Association Executive Leadership Team and board member and immediate past president of The Jackson Symphony.
